그는 도시의 변두리에서 태어나, 공장 굴뚝과 회색 하늘을 매일 보며 자랐다.
젊은 시절엔 화가보다 생계를 위해 인쇄소에서 잉크를 다루었다.
야간에는 버려진 창고를 빌려 그림을 그리며, 색을 통해 세상과 대화하려 했다.
첫 전시회는 초대받은 손님보다 빈 의자가 많았지만,
이후 그의 작품은 해외 비평가들의 눈에 띄며 국제 무대에 오르게 됐다.
지금도 그는 화려한 스포트라이트보다,
조용한 작업실에서 물감 냄새와 함께 하루를 시작한다.
